Continuation of PPH Pilot Program between NOIP - JPO for patent applications until 2022

The National Office of Intellectual Property (NOIP)  and the Japanese Patent Office (JPO) will continue PPH pilot program (PPH Program) Phase 2 in 3 years from April 1, 2019 to 31/3/2022 after completing the pilot implementation of PPH Program Phase 1 (April 1, 2016 - March 31, 2019).


During the implementation of the PPH Program Phase 2 the NOIP will receive 200 requests for the PPH each year (maximum of 100 PPH requests submitted in the period from April 1 to September 30 and the remainder to be filed in the period from October 1 to March 31 of the following year, and that they will extend the period of the program for another three years) for patent applications originating from JPO (previously submitted to JPO) and meeting the conditions specified in Guidelines for procedures for submitting PPH requests to the NOIP.

In contrast, JPO will receive an unlimited number of PPH requests for patent applications originating from the NOIP (previously filed with the NOIP) and meet the conditions specified in the Guidelines for Procedures for Filing PPH Requests in JPO.
